I know what it feels like when a business outgrows its structure, because I was once there. With endless meetings, constant firefighting, and critical decisions bottlenecked at the top, I felt suffocated and trapped.
With stakeholders breathing down my neck every week demanding results, I had grown to dread Monday morning stakeholder meetings… and my Sunday evenings had started to look gloomy as well. The problem wasn’t because I wasn’t working hard enough – I was actually working harder than ever… but on the wrong things. I was holding meeting after meeting that wasn’t impacting our profits. Team members were leaving out of frustration, and I couldn’t blame them.
But I couldn’t leave, so I had to find a way. I tried implementing popular project management methodologies but it was extremely difficult to measure progress. By Week 2, things had taken a turn. I found myself enjoying my Sunday evening, without the weight of Monday hanging over my head.
